From 1st September 2001, a completely new scheme, using numbers for the year indicator, was introduced. By using 2 registration marks per year, it was hoped to even out the peak in the demand for new car.

The first letter is the new area identifier:  E.g.  EU 01 CDE

The final Space Shuttle mission Atlantis STS-135 launched on 8th July 2011. It returned to earth on 21st July 2011.

September 2016 had some of the hottest days for 105 years.
